Animal-Head Brooch

In the 10th century, in Europe, specifically in Scandinavia, on the island of Gotland, in the town of Visby, at Kopparsvik, there is a noteworthy brooch crafted in the shape of an animal head. This brooch is fashioned from copper alloy and is hollow, featuring a riveted back plate that still retains remnants of pin fastenings. Its external surface is divided into a grid resembling lozenges, with circles adorned by a cast motif reminiscent of elements derived from the Broa style, as well as a ring-pointed pattern.

The brooch has prominent and ornate borders adorned with geometric designs, and its "ears" exhibit a stepped pattern. The "snout" of the animal head is relatively simple in design. The surface of the brooch bears partial tin plating. Unfortunately, the pin itself is missing, and on the reverse side, one can observe traces of fabric resulting from the casting process.
