The Reykjavik Family Park is nonstop children’s entertainment with theme park rides, a trampoline, bumper boats, interactive playground equipment and a scale model of a Viking ship. Kids can try their hand at operating little electronic go-carts or pull themselves across a man-made lake on a raft.
There is so much going on at this family-friendly complex that it could take several days to explore. The zoo highlights species found in Iceland, both wild and domesticated, like the beautiful sheep, reindeer, Arctic fox, cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, ducks and the purebred Viking horse with daily pony rides. At the cold-water aquarium you’ll see ocean creatures from the North Atlantic including over 20 species of fish, playful seals, crabs and mollusks.
At the nearby Science World kids can measure their screams in decibels and envelop themselves in giant soap bubbles. There is a lovely merry-go-round and a colorful train ride for little ones to enjoy a tour around the entire park.
There is also a coffee house and kiosk that sells souvenirs and a selection of beverages and soft ice.
Reykjavik Zoo
Reykjavik Zoo hosts all the Icelandic farm animals, and reindeers, habour seals, arctic foxes and mink. You can also find a great selection of birds, such as hens, pigeons and turkeys. There’s also a small exhibition of foreign reptiles.
You can get up close to the farm animals and pet them. Icelandic farm animals include the Icelandic sheep, Icelandic horses and cows. Make sure you check out when the different animals are fed, for it is both entertaining and fun to witness it, especially when the seals are fed.
