Bears were revered by Vikings for their immense size, fearlessness, and strength, with fur capable of resisting even sharp weapons. It’s easy to see why Vikings admired them and aspired to embody their power. Even Viking kings kept bears as pets, and the bear symbol held sacred significance for Odin.

The bear also inspired the legendary berserkers, the most feared Viking warriors. Before battle, berserkers would channel the spirit of the bear, symbolically—or sometimes literally—wearing its skin as armor.
