Arm-ring

This Viking arm ring, dating from the 10th century, is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of the time. It is crafted using the twisted technique and is made from gold.

The arm ring is formed from a pair of twisted round gold rods. Between these rods, there is a pair of twisted wires, although a short length is missing at one end. The rods slightly taper towards the ends, which are plain and straight. It is worth noting that the ring shows signs of wear and surface damage, which makes it challenging to ascertain the exact number of nicks or details present on its surface.

The bracelet weave featured in this piece was quite common during the 10th to 12th centuries in Viking culture. These arm rings were not only decorative but also often held significant cultural and social significance, possibly denoting the wearer's status or affiliation within their community or society.
