In Norse mythology, Durinn (or Durin) is a dwarf, as mentioned in stanza 10 of the poem Völuspá from the Poetic Edda. This information is also reiterated in Gylfaginning from the Prose Edda. Durinn is considered the second dwarf to be created, with the first and foremost dwarf being Mótsognir.
Durinn is also featured in the Hervarar saga, where he played a significant role in forging the magic sword Tyrfing, assisted by another dwarf named Dvalin. In some versions of the saga, Durinn is referred to as Dulinn.
In modern times, the character of Durin has had an influence on literature and fantasy. In the legendarium created by J. R. R. Tolkien, Durin is the name given to several kings of the Dwarves, including Durin the Deathless, who is regarded as the eldest of the Seven Fathers of their race. Tolkien drew inspiration from Norse mythology and incorporated elements from it into his own fictional world, including the character of Durin.
