The House of Peace

Fredens Hus is a non-profit association that has been working in the spirit of Dag Hammarskjöld since 2006 and has offices in Uppsala Castle.

The House of Peace is a gathering place for peace, human rights and opportunity. Through exhibitions, projects and educational activities that focus on children and youth, you work for social sustainability. It is about peace work at the grass-roots level to promote equality, fight against racism and intolerance, as well as conflict resolution practices and active citizenship.

At the Fredens Goose Museum, you can visit exhibitions on, inter alia, vulnerability, human rights and peace, such as Dag Hammarskjöld, Alva Muirdal, Malala Yusufzai and Raoul Wallenberg.

Fredens Hus has many years of experience in managing national and international projects and processes of change in society. Focusing on participation and culture will counteract racism, violence, prejudice, intolerance and discrimination on a small and large scale.

Fredens Hoose's educational work uses a method of practical, peaceful pedagogy. It is based on the book by Ian M. Harris (2013) on peace education.

At Fredens Hus we mean that the world is created by groups, not individually, so we use peaceful pedagogy as a method because it creates the best conditions for achieving it. Peace pedagogy can be described as a set of tools that allow people to create different paths to the world. It can be through dialogue, critical thinking, role play, interactive pedagogy and/or empathy. Peace pedagogy is based on values based on violence prevention and awareness of discrimination and intolerance.
