Sanomatalo, Helsinki

Sanomatalo is a commercial and office building in the centre of Helsinki, north of the post office and main railway station, and south of Music Hall. It has 12 floors, three of which are underground. The building was designed by Professor Jan Söderlund and architect Antti-Matti Siikala and completed in 1999.  It was the first 'glass like' building in Helsinki, which was protested by nature conservationists over bird deaths caused by glass walls. One way or another, the house was protested because two additional floors were built on it, contrary to the city plan.

In 2014, Sanoma sold the building to a German real estate fund for 176 million euros and remained a tenant.

Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat and Taloussanomat, Radio Rock, Radio Suomipop, Loop, Helmiradio, HitMix and Radio Aalto are located in open offices on the upper floors of the building. The two lower floors are business and exhibition spaces with, among others, an R-kiosk and a DNA shop. There is also a blood donation point from the SPR blood service.

The addresses of Sanomatalo are Tölönlahdenkatu 2, Alvar Aalto, alley 2 and Postikuja 2.
