Ballinesker Hoard

In 1990, a remarkable treasure trove of gold jewelry was uncovered during construction activities at Ballinesker. This treasure included gold dress clasps, a gold bracelet, and various other exquisite gold jewelry pieces, among them a pair of particularly modern-looking earrings or ear spools. These valuable artifacts are now on display at the National Museum.

The items discovered date back to around 700 B.C., placing them within the Late Bronze Age, approximately 2,712 years ago. These ornaments represent a glimpse into the craftsmanship and aesthetics of this ancient period.

The gold jewelry is now showcased as part of the permanent gold exhibition at the National Museum. This exhibition is considered one of the most significant collections of gold artifacts in Western Europe. The museum itself is housed within a 19th-century building surrounded by trees, situated next to Dale Arianne. If you happen to be in Dublin, it's definitely worth a visit to explore these impressive historical treasures.
